The Washington State Standard wrote an article highlighting the recent meeting of the Joint Select Committee on Civic Health and their statement condemning political violence, in light of the murder of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and the assassination attempts of then-candidate Donald Trump.
“We may disagree with each other, but disagreements should not translate to violence,” the committee asserted in their statement released on Wednesday afternoon. “As Americans, we must move through these difficult and divided times by renewing our commitment to non-violent, non-abusive, and productive dialogue.”
The statement was signed by 12 members from both the Democratic and Republican caucuses in the House and Senate, as well as by Lieutenant Governor Heck, who chairs the Joint Select Committee on Civic Health and is a co-partner of the Project for Civic Health.
