How to Get Involved
Help us spread the word about the Project for Civic Health and our core principles!
Our three core principles:
1. Engage with Respect
We commit to fostering respectful conversations in public discussions.
2. Seek Common Ground
We will work toward principled compromises whenever possible.
3. Disagree Constructively
When agreement isn’t possible, we will remain respectful and constructive in our differences.
We have several ways for you to join our civic health effort and deepen your engagement with the Project.
1. Sign Up!
Sign up on our website and commit to improving our civic health through showing respect, seeking common ground, and disagreeing constructively. We will exchange resources, share ideas, and help each other shape what comes next.
If our core principles resonate with you, we encourage you to be part of our growing network.
2. Share Our Join Us Page
Please share our signup page with your friends, families, and neighbors. If they, too, resonate with our core principles, we encourage them to join our civic health effort.
The Project for Civic Health provides a platform to connect and learn. But the real energy comes from people like you, taking these ideas and turning them into action. Into schools. Workplaces. Neighborhoods. Town halls. Communities.
Let’s build civic health together and make Washington a model for what’s possible when we lead with respect.
Spread the word. Start where you are. And become part of the solution to one of the most essential issues of our time.
3. Record a Video Testimony
We’d love to hear why civic health is important to you and/or your organization! Check out our Video Testimonies to see how others view the importance of building a healthier discourse in the public square.
Guidelines for your video submission:
- If possible, keep it between 1.5-3 minutes.
- Don’t worry about adding closed captions – we can do that part.
- Record it through the front camera and hold it vertically.
- Hold your phone like you’re Face Timing/video calling a friend or family member, or put your phone against a glass/book/computer/etc. so you can use your hands more freely. Whichever way it is easier and more comfortable for you!
- Some prompts for what to talk about in the video:
- Please briefly introduce or describe yourself and/or your organization at the beginning of the video.
- Why is civic health important to you?
- Include this call to action:
“The Project for Civic Health believes in these three principles:
1) Engage with Respect;
2) Seek Common Ground; and
3) Disagree Constructively.
If these principles resonate with you, join us in building civic health! Take the first step and sign up on the Project for Civic Health’s website to show your support and commitment to strengthening our civic health and improving how we treat each other in the public square.”
4. Write a Guest Blog Post
Our civic health conversation includes a wide range of topics, such as civic engagement, local journalism, the impacts of social media, digital literacy, youth civic participation, political polarization, and more!
If your work or interests entail any of the topics above, we’d love to feature you on our page as a guest writer! Check out our Featured Blogs for more examples.
Guidelines for your writing submission:
- Please keep the content nonpartisan and aligned with our civic health principles or topics.
- We would usually ask our guest writers to keep their blog between 250-500 words.
- If you’d like it to be longer, please keep it under 800 words.
- Include this call to action:
