If there is one overarching suggestion permeating the Project for Civic Health, it might be to start bridging the divide by talking to each other face-to-face. This idea has been raised by the roundtable participants, during last fall’s Summit event, and in this guest blog post by Professor Jevin West.

Washington State University Professor Michael Goldsby concurred during his recent talk, “How Beer Might Save Democracy.” Goldsby spoke at the McMenamins Elks Temple in Tacoma at a Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau event. “I believe that sitting next to somebody and sharing a beverage promotes greater understanding,” Goldsby said, “if for no other reason than you’re much more likely to get punched if you’re mean.”
